Service Engineer - Management Track

Job Description: 

The Service Engineer will be trained in all aspects of servicing the analytical instruments that IXRF manufactures and supports. Once the Service engineer is thoroughly trained and able to handle all service inquiries for IXRF customers and our distribution partners (not less than 6 months depending on the Service Engineer’s experience and capabilities), they will be promoted to Service Manager in title and salary.

The Service Engineer reports to the Head of Commercial and works closely with the General Manager.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide customer support on all service aspects of the IXRF product line, including but not limited to installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Provide support to a network of global distributors on installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all IXRF products, which may include atypical hours to account for time zone differences.
  • Create and maintain documentation to support global distributors for maintenance, installation, and onsite repair of IXRF products.
  • Receive, track, test, and report on incoming service repair jobs from customers and distributors.
  • Black-box troubleshooting.
  • Occasional travel to install IXRF products at customer sites, domestic and international. Not more than 50%.
  • Support the manufacturing, applications, and R&D departments when needed, including, but not limited to:
    • Build and test IXRF products for customer orders
    • Test prototype IXRF products
    • Maintain, verify, and sign off on all cable schematics. Assist in building cables for microscope interface and XRF production during the absence of the Engineering Technician
  • Maintain comprehensive records of service calls, repairs, etc.
  • Maintain all in-house equipment (e.g., company van, stacker, facilities, SEM and all subcomponents, etc.) and facilitate and coordinate repairs.
  • Assist the manufacturing team with instrument builds and troubleshooting as needed.
  • Once promoted to manager responsibilities will also include:
    • Train our channel partner service groups to service instruments
    • Support our channel partner service needs
    • Hire IXRF service support staff as needed
    • Vendor management responsibilities regarding service components as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred, or another appropriate degree in a related technical subject supplemented by extensive experience.
  • 3+ years of experience with electronics design of lab or industrial products.
  • Experienced in diagnosing and repairing high technology mechanical and electronic equipment, often without all information/schematics available.
  • Ability to read and understand hardware/electrical schematics, operating instructions, and service diagrams.
  • Electronics engineering experience.
  • Exceptional ability to interact professionally when in customer facilities and when speaking with customers and distributors.
  • Understanding of basic computer control/communication/IP addresses.
  • Strong troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify patterns and anomalies.
  • U.S. citizen with a valid passport or be able to obtain a passport.
  • Must be vaccinated against Covid-19, as some customer locations require this for entry to their facility.
