Iridium Ultra, One EDS Software Platform, Everything Included
Most EDS vendors sell hardware and software separately, or charge extra for advanced features. Iridium Ultra is all-inclusive.
Spectrum acquisition, elemental mapping, automated quantification, morphology analysis, linescan tools, report generation, and automation come standard, with no modules to buy later.

Software That Comes Complete
For SEM/EDS, SEM/MicroXRF, and Atlas microXRF products, IXRF offers Iridium Ultra, an all-inclusive software suite featuring comprehensive qualitative and quantitative capabilities supporting both electron beam and X-ray excitation. Stage control and automation, data acquisition, spectral manipulation, mapping, imaging, and statistical analysis tools are all included from the start. If you already run a different EDS system, Iridium Ultra runs on the same SDD detector and electronics platform, so switching software does not necessarily mean replacing your hardware.
One Software Suite, Four Workflows
Spectra
- Identifying elements — Kα energy markers and cursor ID
- Spectrum processing — Gaussian deconvolution, automatic peak-overlap correction, escape/sum peak removal, and standardless ZAF quantification
- Annotations — measure, label, and export directly on the spectrum
- Spectrum overlay — compare relative compositions across samples
- Spectrum reporting — one-click spreadsheet report of multiple spectra

Imaging
- Image Direct Acquire. Collect spot, rectangle, or freehand spectra, as well as maps and linescans, directly on the SEM image.
- Multipart Acquire. Fully automated spectrum analysis with customized EDS settings and automatically generated reports, including single point, raster area, and freehand line acquisition.
- Segmentation. Visual representation of different phases in an image, with histogram analysis showing the percent area each phase occupies.
- Morphology. Particle information through image binarization, with pixel labeling and measurement for morphological data.
- Stitching and Montage, plus Automated Particle and Multi-Point Analysis.

Mapping
- Multielement Quantitative Mapping with overlay maps and a full map analysis toolbar.
- Phase Maps. Automatically identifies phases within a sample and quantitatively analyzes the elements within each, with phase specific overlaid spectra for comparison.
- Ratio Maps. Analyze element ratios in a region of interest and compare element weight percent ratios.
- Composition Mapping. Define compositions to display, whether standard compounds or customer specific materials.
- Beam Drift Correction, Maximum Pixel Spectrum, Map Stitch and Montage, and Automate Stage and Beam for unattended acquisition.

Linescans
- Multielement Linescan Acquisition.
- Linescan Overlay. Compare relative compositions across samples.
- DataView. Toggle between intensity and concentration.
- MultiScan. Stability control for long acquisitions.

Updates Included, Not Sold in Tiers
IXRF offers free software updates for the life of the system, so the analyst is never out of date. There is no advanced tier to unlock and no per-feature license to renew. IXRF can also update your computer to a current Windows environment, with Office interoperability for fast report generation and compliance with modern institutional security protocols.
All-Inclusive
Spectra, imaging, mapping, and linescans come standard on every system, not sold as separate modules.
Updates Are Free
Every software update is included for the life of the instrument, at no additional cost.
One Platform, Two Excitations
The same software runs electron beam EDS and X-ray excitation SEM/MicroXRF side by side.
You Might Also Need
SEM/EDS
The same detector and software platform, built for scanning electron microscopes.
SDD Detectors
Replacement or upgrade detectors for SEM or TEM.
SEM/MicroXRF
Adds the Xb or ƒX X-ray source for full elemental coverage.
Frequently
Asked Questions
Iridium Ultra is an all-inclusive EDS analysis suite with spectrum acquisition, peak identification, quantitative analysis, elemental mapping, linescans, imaging, phase analysis, morphology, automation, and reporting tools integrated into one platform.
Yes. Iridium Ultra supports automatic standardless quantification using ZAF, along with spectral deconvolution, peak-overlap correction, and other processing tools needed for quantitative EDS analysis.
Yes. Iridium Ultra supports multi-element mapping as well as quantitative concentration maps that convert X-ray intensity data into elemental or component concentrations such as weight percent.
Yes. Iridium Ultra includes automation tools for unattended data collection. MultiPart Acquire and RoboStage can automatically acquire spectra and other EDS data using predefined analytical conditions and microscope stage positions.
Yes. Iridium Ultra can automate EDS acquisition at multiple locations across the SEM stage, allowing users to define measurement positions and collect data sequentially without manually repositioning the sample for every analysis.
Yes. Acquired map data can be revisited to extract spectra, generate linescans, compare elemental intensity or concentration, evaluate regions of interest, and perform additional phase or composition analysis without repeating the original map acquisition.
Yes. Iridium Ultra includes phase mapping, image segmentation, composition mapping, and quantitative analysis tools for identifying and comparing chemically distinct regions within a sample. Phase-specific spectra and compositions can also be evaluated within the software.
In many cases, yes. IXRF can upgrade an existing SEM-EDS installation with Iridium Ultra, new electronics, and a computer while retaining a functional EDS detector. Compatibility can be evaluated from the existing detector and system configuration.
Yes. IXRF provides software upgrades at no additional cost for the life of the system for eligible primary customers, helping keep existing systems current as new software features are released.
Iridium Ultra supports reporting of spectra, quantitative results, annotations, maps, and analytical results, including spreadsheet-style quantitative reports and Microsoft Word reporting workflows.
Iridium Ultra is a Windows-based software platform. Current IXRF instrument platforms use Windows 11, while earlier SEM-EDS installations may operate on supported Windows 10 configurations depending on system generation.
